We’re Still Funding Freedom

Hope travels with us this giving season!

Every day, the Fund Texas Choice team shows up for people who need support accessing out-of-state abortion care. Well-versed in the art of providing compassionate care, resources, and a sense of agency, the client services team, better known as the programs team, demonstrates what it means to champion abortion access. Every call our team answers is a reminder that care can’t be banned. Anti-abortion politicians will continue to weaponize their power against bodily autonomy, but practical support abortion funds will always find a way to help our community get to the care they need and deserve. Your donation keeps that promise alive, funding the rides, flights, and support Texans need to access safe, compassionate abortion care.

Hear from our program staff about being on the ground and what this work means for the future of pregnant Texans:

Tell us about a moment that reminded you why this work matters.

I recently had someone contact me for abortion assistance, to which I, of course, directed her to FTC’s hotline and walked her through how to get our assistance. That in itself is helpful, but I also sent resource after resource for additional assistance she was looking for. From getting her a free and safe ultrasound in Texas to talking her through the decision and coming up with the best plan for her, to providing aftercare emotional support for both short-term and long-term needs, this work matters because it is so much more than just getting people to and from their out-of-state appointments. It’s advocating for people and supporting them through the hard times. It’s building rapport and making Texans  feel comfortable. It’s working tirelessly to find the right resources and offering as much as we can. This work goes deeper than just the travel; it’s about the people.

How does being part of Fund Texas Choice give you hope for the future?

FTC is one of many abortion funds and practical support organizations across Texas, and we all work individually and together to ensure that Texans receive the appointment funding and travel support they need to access abortions out of state. All of these organizations give me hope, because it proves that we have not left Texas behind, and will continue to advocate for the decriminalization of abortion access. Pregnant Texans deserve so much more, but I have hope that there is a better future out there.

MT, Program Coordinator

What do you wish more people understood about abortion access in Texas?

I wish more people understood that pregnancy and starting a family does not exist without abortion access. These two concepts are not separate from each other but exist simultaneously because abortion access means people are able to choose when and how they will or will not start a family. Abortion access not only benefits the person who is seeking care but their entire family and community. Abortion access in Texas will improve our broken healthcare system.

GA, Intake Coordinator

How does being part of FTC give you hope for the future?

Working with my team every day reminds me that abortion access is rooted in love. Being a part of a larger network of abortion and practical support workers is a testament that despite the attacks on our reproductive rights and autonomy, people will advocate for a better world and that fills me with hope. Doing this work at FTC has shown me time and time again that people protect people, and communities build pathways to abortion care. I strongly believe that our collective liberation is possible when there is love and support for others. Abortion forever!!
